چکیده

The purpose of this tutorial-based lecture is to show the usefulness of performing a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The lecture will explain the background terminology associated with a ROC curve analysis, show the necessary SAS software coding to run a ROC curve analysis, and finally help interpret the analysis output in order to make informed research decisions. An example evaluating body mass index (BMI) cutoff scores indicating obesity is used in the tutorial.

Ability of body mass index to predict abnormal waist circumference: receiving operating characteristics analysis

BACKGROUND Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) are the most used anthropometric measures to identify obesity. While BMI is considered to be a simple and accurate estimate of general adiposity, WC is an alternative surrogate measure of visceral obesity. However, WC is subject to significant inter-examiner variation. The aim of the present study was to correlate BMI and WC measures...

Tailoring the body mass index cutoff for overweight amongst the Nepalese male population

Obesity/Overweight is a recognized risk factor for most of the disorders and risk stratification is based on Quetelets index, a surrogate measure of fatness. Currently used body mass index (BMI) cut-offs to classify people as overweight/obese does not accurately represent the BMI cut-offs in Nepalese population, due to differences in body structure and composition. This study was conducted to d...

Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of BMI in assessing obesity among adult Bengalee males in India.

The present study attempted to understand the appropriateness of different body mass index (BMI) cut-off points in assessing obesity. Four hundred thirty adult Bengalee males with mean age 36.48 +/- 12.23 years (mean +/- SD) from West Bengal, India were studied. Height, weight and percent body fat were measured and BMI was derived following standard equation. Receiver operating characteristic (...

Arm circumference to height-ratio (AHtR) – an alternate tool to identify overweight and obesity in children aged 5-12 years

Background and Objective: Childhood obesity is one of the major national health concerns. World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends Body mass index (BMI) as the standard epidemiological measurement of obesity. The BMI is not quite independent of stature, especially at the younger ages. Hence, an alternative tool like arm-circumference-to-height ratio (AHtR) is necessitated. The aim of this stu...

Neck Circumference in Overweight/Obese Subjects who Visited the Binjai Supermall in Indonesia

BACKGROUND Neck circumference (NC) is a simple screening measure for identifying overweight and obesity, it reflects upper-body fat distribution and central obesity. AIM To determine whether a single measure of NC might be used to identify overweight/obesity. MATERIAL AND METHODS An observational, analytical, cross-sectional study was done. The subjects consisted of all consecutive subjects...
